Council members will consider accepting a trail easement offered to the city from Fox Lake Investments when they meet on Monday.

The easement is on the west side of Fox Lake Plaza, north of 15th Street and Interstate 35. This would complete the connection for the trail from 15th Street to Fox Lake Lane.

City officials, business leaders and the Arcadia Lake Trail Coalition, a nonprofit group, have plans for a private/public partnership for a trail along Interstate 35 to and around Arcadia Lake.

The council meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at 20 S Littler Ave.

Acceptance of the easement will help city officials in their effort to obtain a $160,000 Oklahoma State Parks Recreational Trails Program grant to pave the trail behind Walmart and the proposed Sam's Club.

“A few years ago a group of volunteers worked to develop a primitive trail west of the commercial development where Walmart is located along I-35 and east of the lake adjacent to the Fox Lake neighborhood,” said Assistant City Manager Steve Commons. “These volunteers established the alignment of the trail with clearing brush and spreading wood chips.”

In September, council members voted to spend $200,000 for engineering to design a multipurpose trail from I-35 and around Arcadia Lake. The trail, for walkers, joggers and bicyclists, was expected to be open by 2014.
