EDMOND — Community tree planting and an art show are scheduled for this year's Arbor Week celebrations in Edmond.
“Since Arbor Day is the tree planter's holiday, the city of Edmond will celebrate it by planting trees,” said Leigh Martin, the city's urban forestry assistant.
Traditionally there has been one tree planting during Arbor Week. This year, three community tree plantings are scheduled during Arbor Week, which starts Monday.
The plantings are at:
Anderson Park, 2405 S Rankin, from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Westborough Park, Ryan Way and St. Christopher Drive, 4:30 to 6 p.m. March 28.
Edmond Soccer Fields, 1279 W Danforth Road, 10 a.m. March 30.
“Edmond citizens are welcome to attend and participate in replenishing the urban forest and beautifying the community, Martin said.
People should bring work gloves and shovels.
The theme of this year's Edmond Arbor Day poster contest for fifth-graders is “Trees in Our Town.” Winners from each of the participating schools will be recognized at Monday's city council meeting.
