— An Edmond police K-9 died from apparent overheating, police said.

Justice, a black Labrador retriever, was found in a lethargic state in the back of a police sport utility vehicle Monday afternoon.

He was rushed to a veterinarian where he later died, Edmond police spokeswoman Jennifer Monroe said.

The vehicle was left running with the air conditioner on, and the vehicle's air conditioner is being inspected, Monroe said.

Justice was used to detect narcotics in Edmond Public Schools.

Justice came to Edmond Police Department from the city's animal welfare center in 2010, Monroe said.
