EDMOND — Bret Towne, Edmond Public Schools’ associate superintendent of general administration, was recognized as the Region 7 assistant superintendent/central office administrator of the year by the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators.
The award was announced at the annual summer conference of the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration in Norman. Region 7 includes Oklahoma and Cleveland counties. Winners from 20 regions were eligible for recognition as the state’s top assistant superintendent/central office administrator, an honor won by Gay Washington of Stillwater.
A selection committee chose the regional winners based upon several criteria, including strong moral values, demonstration of successful experience in a top-level educational administrative position, the ability to inspire and motivate people and the promotion of personal and professional growth.
Finalists for the award must be active participants in local, state and national professional organizations.
“I am honored to be recognized by my peers with this award,” Towne said. “This honor is shared with all of the district custodial staff, child nutrition personnel, maintenance departments and operational supervisors of Edmond Schools.
“These dedicated individuals pursue excellence and quality in their positions every day in the support of the teachers and students of the district.”
Towne has worked in education for 32 years as a teacher, assistant principal and administrator. He has spent 15 years in Edmond, overseeing facilities, construction, maintenance, child nutrition and transportation. Prior to coming to Edmond, he worked for Chickasha Public Schools and El Reno Public Schools.
