People gathered across the country and at the Edmond Historical Society and Museum Saturday to sing the national anthem in recognition of Flag Day.

Francis Scott Key, inspired by the sight of the flag’s broad stripes and bright stars after a battle 200 years ago during the War of 1812, penned the lyrics that would become the national anthem.

The “Raise It Up!” event also featured a live webcast hosted by The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., from the National Mall.

An exhibit at the Edmond museum showcased 13- and 48-star American flags.
