Residents who have applied for rebates for installing safe rooms in Edmond should receive an email notification when their applications have been processed and validated.

Residents should expect the notification by the end of July, said Mike Magee, the city's emergency management coordinator.

The application deadline was June 30.

Once the applications are processed and validated by the city, each applicant will be assigned a random number, Magee said.

The top 500 applications will be forwarded to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management. Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will make the final decision.

City officials cannot estimate a time frame to receive the money, Magee said.

The selected 500 applicants will receive notification by mail after FEMA officials approve the applications and funds are available. The letter will include instructions for permits and other paperwork required to continue the process.

Those selected will receive rebates within four to six weeks once the federal funds are received, Magee said.
