Hansen (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) also has the feet that the Sooners want as their offense asks more of the quarterback in the run game. He ran for 773 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, making a big improvement from his sophomore year.

He has been suffering from a lower-back strain suffered during basketball season.

Hansen has been throwing recently and hoped to be cleared to resume weightlifting this week.

The Sooners have good luck with in-state quarterbacks in the Bob Stoops era.

Two of the quarterbacks—Tuttle’s Jason White and Putnam City North’s Sam Bradford—have gone on to win the Heisman Trophy. The other, Southmoore’s Kendal Thompson, is a sophomore currently in the mix for the starting spot.

Hansen gives the Sooners three commits for the 2014 class and the first from the state.

Both previous commitments are from Texas—Lancaster defensive back Vontre McQuinnie and Pflugerville Hendrickson running back Samaje Perine.
