EDMOND — Crews along Covell Road and Kelly Avenue were installing 45 mph speed limit signs Wednesday, replacing the 25 mph signs that have been in place during the construction of the roadway in northwest Edmond.
The area is still a construction zone, City Engineer Steve Manek said.
“So there still could be temporary lane closures with 25 mph speed limits, and there also is a school zone at certain times of the day,” Manek said.
Final touches are being made on the $16.1 million road-widening project at Covell Road and Kelly Avenue.
Traffic signals will be at Thomas and Covell; Kelly and Covell; and Kiowa and the entrance to J.L. Mitch Park.
Construction started about a year ago.
State Transportation Department officials will use federal money to pay for 80 percent of the improvements. Edmond will pay the remaining 20 percent, or $3.2 million.
