EDMOND — Low-speed vehicles or electric cars can be sold at Heartland Outdoors, 1472 N Kelly Ave., city council members decided this week.

Owners Mike and Shawn Forth asked for the zoning change from general commercial to a planned unit development district so the electric vehicles could be sold at their outdoor retail store and indoor gun and archery range.

Council members approved the zoning change and amendment to the city’s master zoning plan by a vote of 4-1. Councilman Wayne Page cast the negative vote.

Randel Shadid, attorney for the owners, withdrew a request to display one of the vehicles outside the business.

Council members said they were glad that the outside display request had been withdrawn.

The planned unit development zoning district restricts the use of the property to outdoor retail sales, an indoor firing range and sale of electric vehicles.

Shadid said someone else could continue to sell these vehicles if his client went out of the gun and archery range business.
