Another short-term goal is to continue with communitywide drainage master plan strategies and communication to reduce flooding and protect environmental quality of the watershed.

They also want to evaluate green infrastructure strategies and develop implementation plans. Council members held their second workshop about green infrastructure strategies where council members talked in favor of such a plan.

The last of their 14 short-term goals is to continue development and implementation of a citywide traffic and communication system.

Second Street between Interstate 35 and Santa Fe Avenue is expected to be the first stretch of roadway to get equipment for the new traffic and communication system.

The strategic plan also lists seven performance targets and 13 general council policies which include semiannual reviews in May or June and updates and modifications in October for the next calendar year.

The council also wants to promote diverse, healthy and livable neighborhoods.
