EDMOND — The school district has announced its campus teachers of the year for 2013-2014.
Staff members at each school voted this month.
Of the teachers selected, one will be named the districtwide teacher of the year and represent the district at the state competition. The winner is decided following a thorough selection process by the district's professional development committee.
Peter Markes, orchestra teacher at Edmond North High School and this year's district teacher of the year, was named in September by the state Education Department as Oklahoma teacher of the year.
Markes, 34, will spend a year away from the classroom traveling the state, speaking to fellow teachers and those studying to be teachers. He will represent Oklahoma in the national teacher of the year competition in April.
Edmond's new teacher of the year will be announced in the spring at the Edmond Public Schools Foundation's Celebration of Excellence event.
