Edmond's annual Krazy Daze brings out bargains
Edmond merchants are hoping to move old merchandise out to make room for the new during the 57th annual Krazy Daze sale.
EDMOND — Edmond's annual Krazy Daze sales may mean big savings for customers, but not necessarily huge profits for local merchants.

Bryanne Wallace, owner of Fashion Boutique, already had some merchandise marked 20 to 75 percent off in the days leading up to Krazy Daze. She said many items in the sidewalk sale will be 20 percent off, with more sales inside.
Wallace said Krazy Daze is a way for her to clear inventory and make room for new merchandise in the store.
"It's not a moneymaker. It's a matter of merchandise leaving and getting into people's hands that can use it so we can get ready for the fall," she said.
Karen Morton, owner of Sacred Hearts Catholic Gifts, said she will have some items outside priced as much as 50 percent off.
"People remember the sidewalk sales and they like to dig through what's on the tables," she said. "But by the time you reduce it you're hopefully breaking even. It's a way to freshen up and move product."
Downtown Edmond Business Association Manager Leah Kessler said Krazy Daze started in 1953 with Hoot Gibson, owner of McCalls.
What started as a sidewalk sale for downtown merchants has become an annual sales event for most Edmond stores over the years.
The searing summer temperatures didn't stop Mendi Hawkins and Heather Gfeller of Edmond from spending a "girl's day out" shopping downtown Friday.
"We're looking for a little of everything," Hawkins said.
"Bargains. That's what we're looking for. All kinds of bargains," Gfeller said.
Krazy Daze sales are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.
