EDMOND — The 42nd Edmond LibertyFest continues through Friday with a parade through downtown and fireworks at the University of Central Oklahoma.
The parade begins at 9 a.m. Friday and will feature more than 100 entries. The 1.5-mile parade has been organized for years by Charles Jones and Jerry Jones.
It begins at University Drive and Ayers Street, continues west to Broadway, goes south to Second Street, east back to University Drive, then north.
The parade route and affected intersections will be closed at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
Carl Eugene Benne, a key figure in getting an arena for the Edmond Round Up Club in 1966, will be grand marshal for the 2014 LibertyFest parade.
Benne, 82, has been active with the roundup club for decades, serving as president, vice president and chairman. He helped design and build the arena nearly five decades ago. City council members in January 2003 named the arena for Benne.
