Edmond's pool is ready for bids
The city of Edmond, school and YMCA are partners in building a $22 million competitive swimming pool and recreation center. Review of design plans is complete, and officials plan to ask for bids next week.
EDMOND — City, school and YMCA officials are expected next week to ask for bids for a contract to build the city's new swimming pool and recreation center.
Review of the design plans for the joint $22 million project took the three partners longer than anticipated, City Manager Larry Stevens said.
“Everyone is very satisfied with the final results,” Stevens said.
City council members are expected to vote on a contract at their Feb. 27 meeting.
Stevens said officials are hopeful the pool and fitness center will be open by mid-2013.
The Edmond School District will pay $10 million of the design and construction cost. The YMCA and city will split the remaining $12 million.
Plans are to build a 50-meter, eight-lane swimming pool with seating for up to 800 spectators.
The recreation center will have a family aquatic area, an elevated walking/jogging track, a fitness center and exercise rooms.
Design work for the project was done by Crafton and Tull architectural firm. The design work cost $1.83 million and will be paid for by the city, the YMCA and the school district.
