Edmond's 'Shop with a Cop' program needs donations
Donations for this year's “Shop with a Cop” initiative are down. Edmond police are asking for donations so local children can go shopping for the Christmas season on Dec. 16.
EDMOND — Edmond police officers have designated 65 children they would like to take shopping for Christmas, and donations are needed to help fund this year's “Shop with a Cop.”
“Donations are down this year,” said police officer Jimmy Gwartney. “Some of our larger donations have just not come in this year.”
Shop with a Cop will begin at 8 a.m. Dec. 16 at SuperTarget, 1200 E Second St.
Target employees will provide food and snacks for the children and their parents. They also will wrap the gifts for the children again this year.
“It was a great experience last year for the participants,” said Gwartney, president of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 136.
“We are trying to give back to the kids and help those who are not as fortunate as others,” he said.
