Southwestern faculty member to work on anti-cancer drug
Southwestern Oklahoma State University professor William Kelly received a $59,094 award to collaborate with researchers at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in developing a novel class of anti-cancer drugs that will begin human clinical trials in late 2010.
The grant will support continued investigations into the mechanism of selective cancer cell death by observing the drug action on several key enzymes within the mitochondria. SWOSU students will carry out much of this work, and the grant will also support travel by these students to present their results at scientific meetings.
