Mock vote registration opens
Registration is open for the My Voice National Student Mock Election. The YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City is one of the participating sites in the National Mock Election, and YMCA officials are encouraging teachers to do the same for their schools. Materials and information are free. Voting begins Oct. 25, and teachers and students can register through the end of the election Nov. 1. The election is a project of the Pearson Foundation. Anti-tobacco students sought
The Oklahoma County Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition is offering free support for middle and high school groups interested in "SWAT: Students Working Against Tobacco." SWAT members promise to not to use tobacco and to educate their friends about the tobacco industry. SWAT teams need a minimum of five members and one adult, such as a teacher, parent or coach. Support, supplies and training are free. For more information, call 425-4490.
Colleges dubbed military-friendly
Nearly 30 Oklahoma colleges and universities have been named to the 2013 Military Friendly Schools list by Victory Media, a media entity for military personnel. The list is the top 15 percent of more than 12,000 schools nationwide that serve military members, veterans and families. Oklahoma schools named to the list this year are Cameron University, Carl Albert State College, Langston University, Moore Norman Technology Center, Northeastern State University, Northern Oklahoma College, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma State University — Institute of Technology, Oklahoma State University — Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Oral Roberts University, Platt College, Redlands Community College, RHEMA Bible Training College, Rose State College, St. Gregorys University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Southwestern Christian University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Tulsa Community College, Tulsa Technology Center, Tulsa Welding School, University of Central Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma, University of Tulsa and Western Oklahoma State College.
