Students from Rogers Middle School didn't have to run away from home to join the circus this week.

A traveling educational program called Circus of the Kids instead came to the Oklahoma City Public Schools campus, giving students a chance to learn the art of performance and audition for a spot in a circus production.

Students who were selected took part in intensive after-school training this week, culminating with a dress rehearsal for parents Thursday night and a series of public shows starting at 7 p.m. Friday at the school, 4000 N Spencer Road.

Organizers said the purpose of Circus of the Kids is to provide a stimulating learning experience and teach teamwork and discipline, and also to encourage self-esteem.
