El Reno 77 days with less than a quarter-inch of rain; Goodwell and Hooker, 103 days, and there's more

True,  the winter is often dry. But below is a map and a chart that might add to understanding conditions this winter.

One, a map from the Oklahoma Mesonet weather network,  shows the number of consecutive days without at least one quarter of an inch of rain.

The second, a chart from the Oklahoma Climatological Survey, shows not only rainfall by region, but also how that compares historically.

Add to that the fact that some areas — such as southwestern and western Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Panhandle — have been battling drought since October 2010 with little to no break.
