Dealers gathered in Bricktown on Monday to showcase vehicle models and offer test drives.

Mike Tomberlin, chief executive officer of the manufacturing company Tomberlin Automotive Group, traveled from the company headquarters in Augusta, Ga., to attend. He praised the dealers’ efforts to secure tax credits for all.

"Our dealers are very passionate all across America, and certainly in the state of Oklahoma, as our brand is resonating,” he said.

Monday’s event, held outside the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, marked the continuance of the tax incentive for Oklahoma buyers.

"It’s not just about a tax incentive,” said Greg Conrady of GKU Electric Vehicles. "This is about Oklahoma taking leadership in developing the market for one of the fastest growing industries in America, the market for electric low speed vehicles.”

GKU, at 1111 S Council Road, plans to open a Tulsa dealership.

New dealerships are popping up and some companies are re-examining their business model to see whether selling low-speed electric vehicles is a good fit.

One of those is Westquip Inc., a Toyota forklift dealership in Oklahoma City that now sells eight models of Columbia ParCar low-speed electric vehicles.

They are too slow. I need one that goes at least 45MPH.

I ordered mine in August and still have yet to receive it. How are the manufacturers dealing with the backlog? Since delivery has to be taken in 2009 to be eligible for the state credit, what's the point of the new dealerships if they can't deliver before Dec 31?
