Elementary school in Oklahoma City locked down Friday

An Oklahoma City elementary school was locked down Friday during a police chase in the area. Police were searching for a man who led officers on a chase near NW 12 and Villa Avenue.

An Oklahoma City elementary school was locked down Friday during a police chase in the area.

Police were looking for a man who led officers on a short chase near NW 12 and Villa Avenue shortly before noon Friday. Hawthorne Elementary School, near the corner of NW 14 and N Youngs Boulevard, was placed on lockdown during the chase.

Officers took the man into custody about 12:35 p.m. near NW 12 and Villa, Oklahoma City police spokesman Capt. Dexter Nelson said. The chase originated from a traffic stop, but police did not provide additional information about the nature of the stop, the name of the man, or what caused the man to flee.
