— An Elk City man was dead at the scene of a one-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on State Highway 44 in Kiowa County.

The victim was identified by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol as Everett Clinton Hitchcock, 32. Troopers said the accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m., about a half mile north of County Road 1370.

Troopers said Hitchcock's car ran off the road for an unknown reason and struck a ditch, then went airborne before rolling 1¼ times. Hitchcock was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown out. He was pinned under the vehicle for about an hour.
