The Oklahoma City Urban Renewal Authority today approved conceptual plans for an eight-story, 196-room Embassy Suites to be built in the Oklahoma Health Center.

The proposed site at NE 8 and Phillips Avenue was home to a Section 8 complex until a few years ago. Bob Howard, Mickey Clagg and Robert Slater — doing business as OU E Suites LLC. — told Urban Renewal commissioners they expect construction will last 18 months, but would not disclose when the project will start.

Their plans call for a full-service all-suites hotel with a restaurant, lounge, deli/market and a ballroom that will accommodate up to 1,000 people.

Russell, I'll correct you; you're wrong. There is some heavy construction all around this area. So far, it relatively quite, and bustling with doctors, medical, and teaching staff. And, as close as you can get to downtown and the state capitol building without actually being there.

Its going to take new development like this to push the bad elements towards another part of town!

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that still a bad part of town to be in, day or night?

Makes sense to me. Family can stay in town if their loved ones are sick and at the OUHSC, visiting doctors can stay there while teaching classes and it is close enough to the capital for visitors. Also, it would be good for people that want to stay close, but not in bricktown and don't want to pay Skirvin or Colcord prices.
