Everyone is upset about the recent shootings in Newtown, Conn. However, the rapid response by the president and Congress, when compared to the slow response to the “fiscal cliff” problem, tells us something about the priorities of the government. It took months for the Senate and the House to come up with a limited answer to our financial problems but only a couple weeks for proposals for new legislation for gun control. It looks like emotions play a more important role than more difficult decisions.
