A female employee at the G.W. Exotic Animal Park was mauled by an adult male tiger after she stuck her hand inside the animal's cage, according to a news release from the park.

The accident happened about 10 a.m. Saturday after the employee put her hand in the cage.

According to the news release, the employee was wearing a large goose down jacket that prevented her from quickly retracting her hand from the cage.

The employee was taken by helicopter to OU Medical Center where she had emergency surgery.

Her name has not been released as her family has not been notified.

The news release said the accident was an employee error and a violation of safety protocols; the tiger will not be put down.
