Each of the corporate employees at Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores will be given $450 to donate to charity.

The Oklahoma City-based company is providing the funds as part of a new initiative called "Making a Difference from the Heart.”

In all, about $165,000 will be given to nonprofit organizations in the greater Oklahoma City area.

The corporate employees — about 360 in all — Tuesday gathered in the courtyard of the company’s headquarters, 10601 N Pennsylvania Ave., for the announcement.

Tom Love, Love’s founder and chief executive officer, his daughter Jenny Love Meyer and Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett were present.

"This is a family business that really focuses on the people of Oklahoma City,” Cornett said. "Remember, we really have to take care of each other.”

Support in hard times
Speaking on behalf of the greater Oklahoma City nonprofit community, Debby Hampton, president and chief executive of the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, commended the Love family for supporting the community — especially in tough economic times, when need increases but donations tend to decrease.

"This will be something that will have such a great impact,” Hampton said.

Love’s employees will have until mid-April to choose a charity from the more than 2,000 nonprofit organizations in the area.
