Oklahoma City employers are considerably less optimistic about job growth for the fourth quarter of the year than they were three months ago, but hiring in the metro area continues at an upbeat pace, according to the human resources consultant Manpower Inc.
Out of companies polled by Manpower in the Oklahoma City metro area, 17 percent said they planned to hire more employees in the fourth quarter, while another 6 percent said they planned to reduce their staff. Another 73 percent of employers said they would maintain stable staffing levels. Four percent said they were undecided about their staffing and hiring.
This gives Oklahoma City a net employment outlook of 11 percent for the fourth quarter of 2013, down significantly from 22 percent for the third quarter of the year, Manpower said in its quarterly employment outlook survey.
However, Oklahoma City companies are more optimistic about job growth in the fourth quarter of 2013 than they were a year ago, said Rob Denton, a spokesman for Manpower.
“Compared to one year ago when the net employment outlook was 7 percent, employers are more confident about their staffing plans,” Denton said.
Of the 18,000 employers that Manpower surveyed nationwide, 18 percent said they planned to hire more employees in the fourth quarter, while 8 percent said they would decrease staff levels and 72 percent reported they would make no changes in staffing levels, for a national net employment outlook of 13 percent. Two percent of employers nationally were undecided.
