The word was that Energy FC was bringing in a big name to lead the team in its inaugural season. Turns out, the Oklahoma City upstart was working on bringing in a champion.
Energy FC announced Thursday that former Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen will be the Energy’s first head coach. Nielsen, 36, is fresh off winning a 2013 MLS championship with Sporting KC, the club that will also partner up with Energy FC in the upcoming year.
“Sporting Kansas City announced Thursday that the club will partner with two USL PRO teams for the 2014 season, adding a one-year agreement with Oklahoma City Energy FC to join Orlando City SC as an official USL PRO affiliate of Sporting KC.”
