Enid officer fatally shoots armed man, police say

An Enid police officer fatally shot an armed man during a call Saturday evening, authorities said. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.

ENID – A man who confronted police with a weapon was fatally shot by officers Saturday evening, Enid Police Capt. Jack Morris said Sunday.

Morris said someone called 911 about 7 p.m. The calling party, whose name was not released, said Jimmy Wayne Birchfield, 36, was threatening to kill them and their dogs.

When officers arrived on the scene, Birchfield confronted them with a weapon and was fatally shot by an officer, Morris saidx.

The officer, whose name was not released, was placed on routine administrative leave.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting.
