VINITA (AP) — Authorities in northeast Oklahoma are looking for an inmate who escaped from the lockup in Vinita.

Police said 49-year-old James S. Maxwell got loose about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Northeast Oklahoma Correctional Center.

Maxwell has ties to the Tulsa area and investigators say it is possible Maxwell has gone to the city.

Maxwell is white, with black hair and brown eyes. He stands 6-2 and weighs 235 pounds. Officials say he was imprisoned for assault and battery on a police officer.
