Kevin Durant showed off even more of his MVP chops Wednesday night, extending his 30-plus-point games streak to 12 as the Thunder pulled away from the Miami Heat.
And following the game, Durant was his humble self, giving glory to God in a postgame interview with ESPN's Doris Burke. But it's not Durant's religious expression that drew the most heat on Twitter.
Listen to Burke's reaction to the Durant comment. Durant credits God and Jesus Christ for his historic run of play, in which Burke responds with a laugh, seemingly brushing off the notion that a higher power could be the cause for Durant's play.
And Burke's not done. She keeps going, replying with "you didn't have nothing to do with it?," trying to get Durant to at least take a little credit for laying the league to waste in the past month.
No Durant dice. He still gives props to God.
"Nothing. It's all him," he says.
As if Burke wasn't already kind of a national punching bag for her amazingly awkward interviews with Spurs coach Gregg Poppovich in between quarters, she now adds the distinction of starting a mini-holy war against Durant and God to her plate.
Maybe it wasn't meant as a slight at Durant's beliefs, and Burke was just trying to pry a little more out of MVP frontrunner. But the damage was done, and Burke is getting roasted.
Much respect @KDTrey5 for giving Jesus Christ all the credit, the fact that Doris Burke would laugh after makes me hate espn ever more— Alex Garrett (@AG_213) January 30, 2014
No reservation/hesitance in @KDTrey5's gratitude. Exudes humility. What more people need to see and do. Screw Doris Burke - she's an idiot.— Tracy Graven (@tmoneymedia) January 30, 2014
Was she out of line with her laugh and the follow-up question?
In an email to media writer Mel Bracht on Thursday, Burke said: “He just took me by surprise with his reaction — not because he's a believer, I'm a believer. It was an incredible demonstration of humility in the context of what has been a truly spectacular stretch.”
