"I just like to come out to let them know we appreciate them," said Baker, one of the hundreds of people who lined the streets Friday during the Tulsa Veterans Day Parade.

Her father, a Navy veteran, was marching in the parade, and her husband is a Marine. One of her co-workers lost a son in Iraq.

"Our troops may be fighting overseas, but it touches all of us back at home," Baker said.

Her daughter, Hailea, stood nearby waving her own miniature flag as they watched marching bands and groups of veterans pass by. Hailea, 2, said her favorite part of the parade was watching the cheerleaders. She seemed to change her mind a few minutes later when she found an American Legion group passing out candy.

Karol Brown came to see her daughter, Chelsea Clifton, 15, march with the Bixby Junior
