Even with the loss, it’s fun to watch the Thunder roll

Chills ran down my arms when the announcer shouted Desmond Mason’s name.

I’m not a die-hard basketball fan, so I didn’t realize how much I had missed the NBA until Tuesday night, when the Oklahoma City Thunder debuted at home.

They lost to the Los Angeles Clippers in pre-season play, but the game was still exciting, down to the final seconds.

Here are my observations:

• The song "Thunderstruck” by AC/DC needs more play. As I’ve said before, you can never have too much of that.

• I shouldn’t be a coach. In my opinion, Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy should have taken a timeout in the last exciting seconds of the game and said this: "All right, guys, you’ve played a good game, but let the Thunder win. I mean, it’s their first home game in franchise history. Everybody came to see them and cheer on the new team. Preseason doesn’t really count. Pretend like you’re trying, but let’s give this one to the new guys.”

Fans should stay to the end of the game. If you have a legitimate reason to leave early, that’s fine. If you want to beat the traffic, that’s lame.

• I can’t wait for the real season kickoff Oct. 29. I already have tickets in the cheap seats.

I need to buy a Desmond Mason shirt. Now.
