MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont will be buzzing with events to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

There will be at least 21 fireworks shows, 13 parades and 104 special events planned for Fourth of July weekend, state tourism officials said. But with thunderstorms rolling across the state on Thursday, several communities were delaying their fireworks shows.

Some Vermont residents, though, were kicking off the celebrations Thursday, including with a fireworks show at the Thunder Road racecourse in Barre.

Also starting Thursday, Grafton was hosting its fifth annual Grafton Music Festival with a Vermont Symphony Orchestra concert and fireworks at Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center. The music festival will continue through Sunday.

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra also will perform at Shelburne Farms in Shelburne on Friday, Three Stallion Inn in Randolph on Saturday and Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe on Sunday. As part of the 2014 Summer Festival Tour "Let's Dance!" the performances will feature waltzes, swing, polkas and salsa, culminating with The 1812 Overture and fireworks.

Warren has its parade, "revered for its witty skits and floats, costuming and political satire," tourism officials said.
