LIVINGSTON, Ala. (AP) — Former Auburn safety Demetruce McNeal has transferred to Division II West Alabama.

West Alabama says the senior enrolled in classes Thursday morning and was to practice with his new team later in the day.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn dismissed McNeal from the team last Saturday following the player's arrest on a marijuana possession charge.

McNeal was second on the team with 90 tackles last season.

West Alabama coach Will Hall says he talked to McNeal's family members, high school coaches and Auburn coaches. Hall says "we believe he is going to be a good person here."

He also says McNeal "understands that he will have to become us and we will not become him."
