A former detention officer is behind bars, accused of smuggling drugs and cellphones inside the Oklahoma County jail with the help of an inmate's girlfriend, court records show.

Prosecutors filed multiple felony charges Wednesday against the ex-officer, Tina Nicole Reed, the inmate, Adam Lee Piro, and the girlfriend, Laura Regina Archuleta.

Each is charged with conspiracy. Reed also faces five counts of possession of contraband in a penal institution, and Piro also faces one count of possession of contraband.

Reed, 31, of Oklahoma City, was fired Monday by Sheriff John Whetsel and booked into the Oklahoma County jail. She was in custody Wednesday, with bail set at $30,000, a jail worker said.

“She told us at the time of her arrest that she never expected to get caught,” Whetsel said of Reed. “Nobody ever expects to get caught, but we're doing everything in our power to ferret out this kind of activity.”

Reed is the latest in a series of detention officers to be fired and jailed in the same facility where they once worked, on suspicion of contraband smuggling. Two other ex-officers suspected of smuggling contraband have not been charged, records show.

Whetsel characterized the department's investigation as ongoing.

“The vast majority of our employees are good employees,” he said. “They follow the law and they conduct themselves very ethically, but the small number that don't need to know that we mean business and will not tolerate this kind of behavior.”
