STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Former Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin now has a baseball field named after him.

School trustees on Friday approved naming the field at the university's Scranton campus after McGloin. In his senior year in 2012, McGloin set the school season record for passing yardage (3,266) and tied the record for passing touchdowns in a season (24).

McGloin, who wasn't selected in last week's NFL draft, was invited to Washington Redskins rookie minicamp.

The outgoing and fiery McGloin was a standout at West Scranton High School. A meteoric rise from Penn State walk-on to record-setting quarterback turned McGloin into a star in northeastern Pennsylvania.

He won the Burlsworth Trophy for being the nation's top college player who started his career as a walk-on.
