Former Twins pitcher Carl Pavano tells the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he lacerated his spleen shoveling snow on Jan. 12 and didn't realize the injury's severity until it was almost too late.

After a harrowing ordeal, Pavano knows he won't be pitching anytime soon.
"I'm just lucky to be alive," Pavano said in a phone interview this week.
