The former wife of a slain Oklahoma soldier is accused of misappropriating about $400,000 in life insurance benefits meant for their child.

Harrah resident Trisha Dawn Fish was indicted by a federal grand jury in Oklahoma City. She spent most of her son’s inheritance within a year, the indictment states.

Fish, 30, appeared in court Wednesday on an embezzlement charge that carries up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. She was released on her own recognizance.

Fish is the former wife of Jeffrey Stuart Henthorn, a U.S. Army specialist killed in Iraq in February 2005. They were married in 1998 and divorced in 2000.

Henthorn, 25, designated his son, Chance, as the sole beneficiary of his military life insurance policy, the indictment states.

Fish went to Kickapoo Tribal Court in McLoud in March 2005, when the boy was 6 years old, seeking to be appointed her son’s guardian and fiduciary, according to court papers.
