Explosion sparks large fire at west Tulsa refinery

An explosion at a west Tulsa refinery caused a large fire early Thursday, authorities said.

An explosion at a west Tulsa refinery caused a large fire early Thursday, authorities said.

The Tulsa Fire Department was notified shortly before 2:30 a.m. of the fire at the HollyFrontier Corp. refinery at 902 W. 25th St. and crews went on standby as the refinery's private fire department handled the blaze, firefighters said.

The fire was large enough to be seen from the east side of the Arkansas River, firefighters said. It appeared to be out by 5 a.m.
