The Federal Aviation Administration has named a new director of the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City.

Michelle Coppedge, a nine-year veteran of the FAA, will succeed Lindy Ritz as director of the center. Ritz retired in January. Coppedge began her new role Sunday.

Coppedge previously was director of the FAA Logistics Center, which handles storage and distribution of radar, navigation and communications equipment and is on the aeronautical center's campus. She joined the FAA in 2004 and has a master's degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University, a master's degree in business administration from Oklahoma City University and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

The center, at 6500 S MacArthur Blvd., employs 5,200 workers, including 2,000 contractors, and also hosts about 1,000 students.
