High school football: State's top two QB prospects face off Thursday

Edmond Santa Fe and Justice Hansen and Norman North and David Cornwell will scrimmage Thursday night at Santa Fe.

EDMOND — The odds are slim that the football world will get a second chance to see Justice Hansen and David Cornwell going head-to-head on the field again. But if it happens, the stakes will be a lot higher than their first meeting, which comes Thursday night in a scrimmage at Edmond Santa Fe.

Should they ever square off again, it'll either be a Class 6A playoff game this fall or maybe an Oklahoma-Alabama bowl game somewhere down the line.

Edmond Santa Fe's Hansen and Norman North's Cornwell — the state's elite quarterback recruits and one of the best QB duos to come out of Oklahoma in the same class — will meet at Santa Fe as part of a four-team scrimmage beginning at 6 p.m.

Depending what recruit ranking service you prefer, the two are among the nation's most sought-after signal-callers.

Hansen, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound OU commit, is rated by ESPN as the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback in the country.

“Hansen is just one of those guys that knows when to pull the trigger and is at his best when improvising and on the move,” ESPN recruiting analyst Tom Luginbill wrote. “He has a sixth sense about where pressure is coming from, can evade defenders and keep plays alive instinctively.”
