NORMAN — A Facebook posting led to a Norman police investigation of an indecent exposure case at Sooner Mall.
Police say they have questioned a man who they believe exposed himself near the mall’s play area. An investigation is ongoing, and charges are expected to be filed.
An alert police officer saw a posting by a Norman mother who was warning other mothers about an incident involving her child, said Lt. Tom Easley. The woman posted that her daughter was playing in the mall’s play area when she noticed a man sitting off to the side, exposing himself while looking at her daughter.
The woman had not contacted police about the incident, but police contacted her, Easley said.
Police said the woman’s description of the man fit that of a man who frequents the mall. Officers quickly located him and are in the process of questioning him, Easley said. The investigation remains open.
Police have found social media to be an effective tool in both disseminating and gathering information, Easley said.
“This instance is a great example of technology and community partnerships working together to quickly address problems and protect our community,” Easley said.
