Facebook: The Odds and Ends of a Teen Addiction

Sara Patterson’s Facebook status is updated everyday.

“Ugh, biology homework…”

But Patterson, a freshman at Edmond Santa Fe High School, does not just use Facebook to talk about her boring science homework.

She uses it to spread word about tickets for the upcoming show Edmond’s Got Talent, put on by the Fine Arts Institute Youth Board.

“Facebook has helped me check RSVP’s, track response and get feedback about the show,” Patterson said. “I will use it again for other events in the future.”

Facebook is a great way to social network. But it also has many positive assets that help make it one of the most visited sites in the United States.

Facebook allows people to find friends, write on their friend’s wall, upload pictures and videos, support causes, join groups, discover new music and much more. With just a click of a mouse, people around the world can connect.

Keeping in touch with friends is the main reasons many people have Facebook accounts.

Shannon Staig, 16, who recently moved to the United States from Scotland, loves Facebook because it has helped her keep in touch with her family and friends from across the Atlantic Ocean.

Facebook offers the Friend Finder application, which helps you find friends all around the world just by typing a name in a search box.
