TULSA — Staring out from the wreckage of her face, Daisy’s big brown eyes never wavered.

For those who saw the 6-year-old dachshund mix back then, it was the eyes that hooked them, helping ease the initial shock.

"On first glance she was definitely frightening,” SPCA spokeswoman Pat Atkinson recalls. "But on second look, you saw her looking up at you with those eyes — and then you didn’t see anything else.”

Daisy, who lost her nose and upper lip months ago in a presumed accident, was facing a grim future when the SPCA of Tulsa acquired her in February.

After two reconstructive surgeries and plenty of TLC from her new friends, Daisy has experienced a tail-wagging turnaround.
