This week’s unusually cool weather — 80s in the Oklahoma City area — has me thinking about fall fashion. You too?
I was at Dallas Market Center a few months ago for the fall apparel market and Gregor Simmons, owner of a New York City-based buying office, highlighted the trends and styles that are starting to show up in stores.
Get ready for:
Texture — Jacquard, inspired by French tapestries, brocades, burnouts and chunky knits.
Prints — Chinoiserie, baroque, gothic floral, Icelandic, ikat, m0nochromatic.
Monochrome — Monochromatic looks reign supreme over total color or color-blocking. Far from monotonous, subtle variations in fabric and color keep the head-to-toe approach current.
Shape shifters — High drama in proportion. Dramatic movement and fluid lines on elegantly draped blouses and tops, the kimono sleeve, cape backs, side ruffled panels, high-low hems and faux layers on blouses, tunics and jackets.
Lavish leather and fur – All over and as embellishment.
Outerwear — Collarless jackets, motocross and motorcycle inspired jackets.
Color — Green (emerald, all tones of olive, moss, grass). Red (ruby, merlots, burgundy). Purple (acai berry, prune, blackberry, eggplant). Blue (navy, turquoise, cobalt, royal). Brown (coffee, mocha, camel, chocolate, pale taupe, soft beige). Pink (cosmetic pink, baby pink, fuchsia and magenta). Yellow (goldfish, soft sun, umber).
Gold hardware and embellishments — Buttons, zippers, studs, buckles, grommets, closures, sequins, iridescent finishes, metallic sheens.
