Former coach Stanley watches game as a scout
Jim Stanley, who in 1974 coached Oklahoma State to its first Arizona bowl game, watched the Insight Bowl from the Sun Devil Stadium pressbox.

Stanley, a long-time NFL scout for the Arizona Cardinals, left at halftime but saw plenty to be impressed with.

"I really like (Dantrell) Savage,” said Stanley, who also complimented tight end Brandon Pettigrew and quarterback Zac Robinson.

Stanley was head coach at OSU from 1973 through 1978.

His 1976 Cowboys tied for the Big Eight title, OSU's only conference championship since joining that league in 1959.

Stanley's 1974 OSU team beat Brigham Young 16-6 in the Fiesta Bowl at Sun Devil Stadium.

"Good trip,” Stanley said. "We beat BYU. We didn't beat 'em as by as big a score like they have tonight.

"But that really helped us get started” building the program.
