Regarding “Report says restraint by police led to death” (News, April 3): This was a tragic loss of life. However, the officers showed terrific restraint in placing the subject in custody and didn’t act in a criminal manner. This was a 300-pound man; it took five officers to subdue him.
Domestic disputes can be extremely dangerous and violent. Law enforcement officers have no duty to be injured or killed in these situations. This family brought this on themselves. The suspect should have followed police commands and he’d be with us today. The wife committed family violence when she slapped the daughter. More than likely it all could have been resolved with a small misdemeanor fine.
