MOORE — A Moore family has donated a prime piece of real estate to the city for a fire station.

City Manager Steve Eddy said the undeveloped three acres in the 2300 block of Fritts Boulevard is near Interstate 35 and SW 19. Its closest neighbor is Home Depot.

The property is being given to the city by the family of the late Alton and Evelyn Fritts.

It will be the new home to Fire Station 1. The station will have a four-bay apparatus room and double as the fire department's administration building, Eddy said.

Construction is expected to begin early next year, he said.

The city will extend the roadway and install utilities to the fire station, which will allow land adjacent to the property to be developed, Eddy said.

Terry Fritts said his parents purchased the property in 1951, long before retail along Interstate 35 began to develop. It was originally farm land, he said.

Terry Fritts said the donation was one of his father's last wishes before he died in 2007. He said the land is valued at more than $400,000.
