The rich, vibrant shade of emerald green is Pantone LLC's Color of the Year for 2013, beating out all the other shades of the rainbow.

"The power of green began for me with our Fall/Winter collection," says Don O'Neill, creative director of Theia. "We were inspired by the warrior goddess Athena, a symbol that empowers women and imbues them with a sense of control over their own destiny in difficult times." O'Neill acknowledges that the rich color promotes a feeling of well being as well as glamour and warms up a harsh winter as a symbol of life in the dead of winter, but also works well when it's lightened up in time for a blossoming spring.

The Theia collection features emerald green satin gowns with hand-embroidered gold bodices and shimmering organza with silk habotai petals.

O'Neill loves this shade of green paired with gold or platinum for spring, but he also loves emerald teamed with blue. "I personally love green with blue, in defiance of the old adage never to mix blue and green."

And if you're thinking ahead? "In the fall, green is mesmerizing when it's paired with dark red and burnished gold."
